The Regatta Apartment by Lettero
Local materials and curved elements define this meticulously designed 150-square-meter apartment in North Jakarta's The Regatta, where Lettero has created an airy, light-filled residence that maximizes its compact footprint.
The apartment, situated in the coastal district of the Indonesian capital, underwent a comprehensive spatial reconfiguration to optimize its narrow layout. "The main challenge was incorporating all essential living components while maintaining a sense of openness," explains Aghnia Marsha of Lettero.
By removing segmented partitions, the studio established fluid visual connections throughout the common areas. The renovated layout particularly benefits the kitchen and dining spaces, which now flow seamlessly into one another, facilitating enhanced social interaction and entertainment possibilities.
Natural light plays a crucial role in the design strategy, penetrating deep into the interior through the newly opened spaces. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame panoramic views of the surrounding coastal landscape, while the open-plan arrangement allows daylight to traverse the apartment unobstructed.
The studio introduced organic curves and flowing forms throughout the interior to soften the apartment's architectural geometry. These sculptural elements appear in both subtle details and prominent features, creating a dynamic interplay between rigid and fluid forms that adds visual interest without overwhelming the space.
Material selection strongly emphasizes local sourcing, with Javanese Teak and Sungkai wood featuring prominently in the interior. These indigenous hardwoods, selected for their durability and aesthetic qualities, are finished with a natural matte treatment that highlights their distinctive grain patterns. In the bathrooms, local Batu Paras sandstone provides textural contrast to the apartment's otherwise smooth surfaces.
Strategic lighting enhances the stone's natural variations, creating subtle shadows that add depth to the minimalist space. The lighting scheme carefully balances artificial and natural sources to maintain the apartment's welcoming atmosphere throughout the day.
Throughout the interior, Lettero employed a restrained material and color palette, focusing instead on subtle variations in texture and finish to create visual depth. Wood grains are oriented in varying directions, while precisely placed materials form understated patterns that reward closer inspection.
