Cornwall Retreat by Koto Living
Koto Living's Cornwall retreat embodies quiet luxury with nature-inspired design
British architecture and design studio Koto Living has crafted a serene residential interior in Cornwall that seamlessly merges contemporary design with the surrounding landscape, demonstrating their expertise in creating spaces that honor both human experience and natural environment.
Set against Cornwall's picturesque backdrop, this residential project showcases Koto's philosophy of creating meaningful connections between architecture, inhabitants, and nature. The studio, known for their storytelling approach to design, has woven innovation and sustainability throughout the interior scheme.
"This project encapsulates our ethos of creating homes that are more than just spaces to live in - they are environments that inspire, restore, and connect," explains Koto Living's Kirstie Little. "It is a place for the family to spend time together, set in the beauty of Cornwall."
The interior architecture emphasizes refined, adaptable spaces where expansive glazing creates a dialogue between indoors and outdoors. This transparent boundary allows natural light to interact with a carefully curated palette of materials: polished concrete surfaces, limewash-painted walls, and warm timber details work in harmony to create an atmosphere of understated elegance.
Human-centric design principles guide the entire scheme, with discreet technological integrations complementing thoughtfully curated spaces. The ground floor features polished concrete flooring that transitions to soft timber finishes on the upper level.
In the living spaces, the studio has employed a warm, neutral color scheme enriched by natural textures including wool and linen. Bespoke rugs and carefully selected statement lighting pieces add character while maintaining the project's refined aesthetic. The kitchen harmoniously balances function with form, featuring quartz worktops, painted timber cabinetry, and integrated appliances that maintain clean lines throughout.
The bathrooms continue the earthy palette with subtle tonal variations, creating spaces that emphasize relaxation and understated luxury. In the bedrooms, built-in storage solutions and lighting designed to align with circadian rhythms create tranquil sanctuaries. Throughout the home, a sophisticated lighting scheme incorporating recessed spotlights, feature pendants, and LED accents creates atmospheric depth and warmth.
This Cornwall project reflects Koto's broader vision of redefining how we live and connect with our surroundings. Their approach transcends conventional interior design, creating spaces that breathe, inspire, and nurture - achieving a delicate balance between shelter and sanctuary. Every detail has been intentionally considered, resulting in an environment that feels deeply personal and inherently connected to the human experience.
