Vonzrr is an inviting cafe located in Yeonhui-ro, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, South Korea. Studio Sherpa transformed this two-storey, 2,131 square foot interior to create a cafe with a residential atmosphere. Throughout, the cafe adopted a neutral colour palette with light and dark woods that features veneer tables, white oak hardwood floors and sculptural furniture forms. The design concept focused on the essential aspects of a cafe that combines beauty, simplicity, and functionality.
A material palette that focused on the essentials as a cafe rather than the outward splendour.
Bespoke furnishings were constructed for the cafe, paired alongside colourful, iconic pieces from Takta, Artek, and Vitra.
Embracing the building’s original structure, the designers chose to preserve the red brick and concrete walls, revealing a raw, dynamic blend of textures. Overhead, exposed wooden beams create a sense of depth, leading guests to the monolithic service counter that smoothly blends into the hardwood flooring.
The designers adopted a structural strategy that draws in ample of natural light, imbuing each level with a comforting ambiance.
The second level provides additional seating, guiding guests up the softly lit staircase to a space filled with natural light and a charming view of the neighbourhood. This staircase also serves as a transitional journey between the two contrasting atmospheric zones.
“We imagined the space that is completed as a rain when people enter it without revealing the individuality of the space.”
The multiple seating areas framed with white walls and layered textures were designed as embellished vignettes consisting of soft rugs, lush green plants, and lit by black accented light fixtures.
The arrangement was designed to resemble the familiarity of a friend’s home, a natural invitation for visitors to take a break, have a conversation, or work quietly.
