Located in the Rybalsky residential complex of the Podol district in Kyiv, RYB Apartment is a calming adobe that serves as a retreat from the cosmopolitan lifestyles of the owner and his family.
The home was divided into two separate blocks - a private section which includes the master bedroom and bathroom, child’s bedroom and a more public section which includes a spacious kitchen, living room, bathroom, and a study. The interiors was designed to accommodate the needs and emotions of its inhabitants, transforming the environment into various scenarios in everyday life. All rooms are compositionally connected with one other through the use of materials and textures.
“To visually connect the premises into a whole, we used a single palette of materials - birch plywood, micro cement, Japanese KitKat tiles, and Caribbean Calcite marble.”

They sought to create a calm, minimal home but with an informal atmosphere composed around natural materials and designer furniture ; featuring infamous brands such as Belid, DCW, & tradition, Verpan, Zanotta, RBW, Menu, and Ukrainian designers such as Zegen, and Interia. To achieve a sense of flexibility and avoid unnecessary division within this already company apartment, partitions within the original build were completely removed, creating an open-plan layout with one central module defined as the core living space. This module consists of a functional kitchen set, a dining area, a compact workplace, and a spacious living room; a feature which allows for the space to have several functions without any visual clutter. All rooms except the child’s bedroom are directed to the courtyard where an abidance of greenery exists. A picturesque view of the Dnieper opens from the child’s bedroom. Soon after the child enters university, this room will be designated as a meditation place for parents. In this room, they positioned the workplace in such a way that natural light contributes to comfortable work.
“We sought to create a calm, minimal home but with an informal atmosphere composed around natural materials and designer furniture.”
To visually connect the premises into a whole, they used a single palette of materials - birch plywood, micro cement, Japanese KitKat tiles, and Caribbean Calcite marble. A laconic background for furniture and light elements was created through this composition, naturally balancing the cool tones of micro-cement in all rooms with the warm textures of plaster and wood.
One of the main changes implemented within the project was the unification of 3 bathrooms into 2 more spacious ones and removing of all unnecessary partitions. This reorganisation of the varying functions increased the amount of natural light that enters the core living space. Instead, they used glass partitions to block out the natural light that fills the bedroom.
The bathroom, sober and monochromatic, is enhanced by the Japanese KitKat mosaic tiles. The use of shades of grey contributed to the soothing atmosphere of the place with a new layout is adapted to the modern lifestyle.
