Jordi López Aguiló of kutarq studio, showcases the versatility and physical properties of aluminum and steel in his latest collection, GVPO and FOLIO.
Product Design
The GVPO lighting collection emphasizes the industrial process and the natural properties of aluminum. The luminaires are reduced to the bare minimum: made from a single aluminum pipe, laser-cut, then bent and tarnished by hand.
A double warm LED track is hidden under the aluminum section, creating a smooth indirect light to the living space and casting radial reflections towards the ceiling or the wall. The GVPO collection is the perfect balance of modern technology and exquisite craftsmanship.
The luminaires can be dimmable and come in different lengths and typologies, allowing to create extensive customizations. The lamps reveal the charm of raw aluminum, which is ideal for the LED light source heat dissipation.
The GVPO Table Lamp is expertly crafted from raw aluminum, with a sculptural form that is both modern and timeless. The lamp’s inherent function is enhanced by its pure, minimalist design, making it a versatile addition to any space. The luminaire can be oriented towards the wall for a smooth ambient light, or towards the living space, casting radial reflections and emitting a functional reading light.
The GVPO Table Lamp will only get better with age, as the raw aluminum refines and develops a beautiful patina over time.
The FOLIO collection is an exploration through the flexible properties of steel, acting visually as a sheet of bent paper. From 2d to 3d, the planar laser-cut stainless steel sheets are tensioned and transformed into functional elements (A chaise longue, a low table, and a floor lamp), blurring the field between sculpture and design.
Depending on the position of the screws, the high of the table and the angle of the chair can be adjusted. When the pieces are not assembled, they are totally flat, therefore material waste is reduced to the minimum during production.
The FOLIO lounger explores the tensile qualities of steel, taking on the visual appearance of bent paper.
Depending on the position of the screws, the angle of the back and the footrest can be adjusted. When the piece is not assembled, it's totally flat, and material waste is reduced to the minimum during production.
The FOLIO coffee table explores the physical properties of steel, taking on the visual appearance of bent paper. Planar laser-cuts render a 2D sheet of metal into 3D tensioned and transformed functional furnishing elements.
The sculptural design is adaptable, owing entirely to the innate material properties it harnesses and accentuates. Depending on the position of the screws, the height of the tabletop can be adjusted. When the piece is not assembled, it's totally flat, and material waste is reduced to the minimum during production.
