Ukrainian design brand NOOM has created gently rounded coffee tables “Freyja” as an homage to femininity and natural beauty.
These sculptural and sensual tables, named after Freyja, a Scandinavian goddess of love, beauty, and fertility, are designed to evoke a sense of warmth, cosiness, and tranquility. The aspiration was to design a very simple but at the same time voluminous guise which would charm from every angle and add a welcoming feel to any space. As a working material wood has been chosen for a number of reasons; it is a warm, soft, and tactile material that enhances the visual perception of the table’s sculptural silhouette and immediately brings a feeling of homeliness to the interior.
The table is available in three heights and can be finished in a number of woods to ensure it can be used in any space.
The just-launched collection called “Flock” draws on the idea that home is a place of comfort, sanctuary, and gathering and should be filled with personalised, character-rich, and eye-catching statement objects.
The name “Flock,” which means “to move or come together,” refers to the collection’s role as a peaceful oasis and the main meeting space within the home. Subtly curved artistic silhouettes of the furniture, its sculptural and sensual forms aim to evoke a sense of warmth, cosiness, and tranquility. Natural, visually pleasant, and tactile materials reflect a desire for warmth and cocooning.
“Home is the most intimate place for rest, comfort, and gathering, and it should be filled with personalised, character-rich, and eye-catching statement objects like Flock design pieces. In addition to the distinct shape, I wanted to create furniture that would become part of the family, a friend, intimate and beloved. “ - said Kateryna Sokolova, designer of the Flock collection.
The name “Flock,” which means “to move or come together,” refers to the collection’s role as a peaceful oasis and the main meeting space within the home. This idea of gathering resonates with NOOM’s designs, where items are designed to fit together and complement each other functionally and aesthetically. For example, the Flock lounge chair and its accompanying ottoman can perfectly work with Freyja coffee tables, which have the corresponding gently rounded silhouette.
The ethos of the Ukrainian brand NOOM is always about creating meaningful objects that combine bold form, tactile materials, and emotions. And they continue to express themselves through their design during the war. After the start of the war, many Ukrainian companies faced a wave of problems: disruption of supply chains, rising prices of raw materials and logistics, etc. The search for new supply sources, logistics reorganisation, system communication with customers, and a strong desire to continue on their path helped them resume work quickly.
Their production was located in Kharkiv, which from the very first hours of the war, became the target of massive and merciless artillery shelling. The team was forced to relocate their manufacturing to other cities. That’s why they released the Flock furniture collection on the eve of Christmas, not earlier.
Despite many difficulties, NOOM released the collection with an eye-catching appearance and kept the quality high. Each design piece goes through a multi-step production process where they pay exceptional attention to the details.
Balancing between expression and function, NOOM is a place where design meets art.
NOOM was founded in 2017 by industrial designer Kateryna Sokolova, with designer, and entrepreneur Arkadii Vartanov. Arkadii and Kateryna teamed up to bring together the very best of design, materials, and craftsmanship.
Combining traditional and modern manufacturing technologies, NOOM aims to design functional and striking products that are “built to last”. “Our objects lie between design, art, and craftsmanship,” said the designers.
“Managing the manufacturing of our creations, we oversee the entire production process and pay exceptional attention to every detail in each piece”.
