A RETURN TO SIMPLE LIFE

Taiwanese Interior Designers, CA Design, share their latest project Japandi Spirit, a calming abode with a deep connection to both people and place.
The interior incorporates natural elements, and the dining area can be enjoyed both indoors and outdoors, reflecting the connection between people and the earth, creating a peaceful ambiance that feels closest to nature.
The owners often travel to Europe for work and one of their most forgettable memories was the relaxing and leisurely culture of Greece. We have incorporated a spacious terrace into the home, where the owners can look forward to having a drink or to dine under the clear blue skies, as they reminisce about their time in Greece.
“Defined by clean lines, a comforting palette, and purity, Japandi Spirit is a calming abode deeply inspired by Scandinavian Minimalism. The home is comprised of an open plan living, dining, and kitchen area, a master bedroom and bathroom, a study, and a terrace. ”
The walls of the home are rendered warm in beige, and echo the Japanese Wabi-Sabi aesthetic, glorifying the imperfections as seen in the use of concrete in the furnishings. The introduction of natural light and plants allow the space to breathe naturally, injecting the sense of stability and warmth that is core to the essence of simple living. Due to the remote nature of their occupation, both clients are now required to work from home.
To accommodate this change in lifestyle, we decided to convert their original guest bedroom into a study, connecting the space to the living and dining room through a series of pivot doors. Together, these three functions are combined to form the longest axis within the home, connecting each individual space the terrace to offer expansive views of its surrounding landscape.
“ Allowing both indoor and outdoor spaces to breathe naturally without boundaries.”
A portable television stand was also added into the living room for the owners to enjoy some Netflix or Youtube when exercising. With this addition, the television can be rotated to suit their needs, be it when they are exercising, cooking, or gathering with friends.
The terrace is placed on the left side of the home, styled to resemble the rooftop parties that are common abroad. We used wood-grain bricks to line the floors, 2 foldable doors to connect the terrace to the rest of the home, and soft fabrics to instil warmth and cosiness. While the openness of the home may make it appear too transparent, we hope that it imbues a sense of comfort for the owners every time they return home.
Decorations and Furnishings around the home
The chandelier at the desk is the first sight to see after getting started, and there is a display stand behind the lamp, displaying the decorations of great significance to the owner, the rattan dining chair and the chandelier woven with umbrella and grass, and the gray-green kitchen ,
The cotton and linen curtains that are all raised by the breeze merge with each other, and the taste of home emerges spontaneously.
